Vineland, NJ Business & Industry

Vineland, NJ - Once a predominately agricultural region, Vineland has become a player in business and industry. Progressive thinking has kept Vineland’s economic and employment bases thriving. The Chamber, City and County Government, and other organizations are steadily working to draw in new industry and ensure continued growth for the community. Special initiatives to attract businesses into the community translate into higher employment rates and guarantee that residents never have to travel far to find the goods and services they need.

Vineland is a successful community that takes pride in solid relationships with local businesses of all sizes. Small businesses are the mainstay of the region’s economic vitality and create the jobs needed to support our community. Freight and transportation companies, food services, auto sales, personal care services, insurance agencies, craftsmen and vendors of every caliber add their talents and experience to keep our local economy looking good for years to come. Also important to note is the growth and availability of medical services and physicians that have located in our area.

Over the years, business development has helped the area to grow steadily in large industrial companies and manufacturers that are recognizable contributors to our local economy. The industrial parks continue to enjoy growth. Vineland is home to the three northernmost industrial parks in Cumberland County. Direct interstate highway access, Urban Enterprise Zone, Federal Empowerment Zone designations, and affordable land costs make Vineland a prime location. With a skilled workforce and available facilities, Vineland is the ideal place for industrial prospects wanting to locate in a growing, progressive area.

Added to these new projects that have caught the attention of the public are many established industries that carved their niche years ago and remain an important part of the local economy. Local business owners have caught on to the growing trend and have renovated their businesses so as to be prepared for “big business” coming in.

Main Street Vineland is a nonprofit organization that works to preserve, protect, and enhance the downtown area with its historic and natural assets, while raising the equity value of downtown properties and its businesses. The downtown is well on its way to becoming a vibrant and desirable place to live, shop, dine and work. In the not too distant future, thanks largely to a dedicated board of directors and hard working group of volunteers, it will be an exciting community destination, attracting visitors and residents alike by embracing history, culture, and progress. Thriving specialty retail and wide sidewalks with accessible transportation will provide a safe, clean, family-oriented, and attractive environment, serving as the heart of our community — a regional center for commerce and agriculture.

The top non-governmental employers are the healthcare, glass, food processing, retail and clothing industries. In addition, agriculture plays a significant role, with about 400 farms operating in Cumberland County. Fruits and vegetables, flowering trees and shrubs as well as evergreens and perennials are the chief products.

The top employer in the area is the South Jersey Health System with more than 3000 employees. Others in the top tier of employers in Vineland are the Training School at Vineland, a facility for the mentally challenged; Kimble Glass Co.; General Mills; Casa Di Bertacchi; Comcast; and DeRossi & Son Co., a leading manufacturer of military uniforms.

Sometimes overlooked are the non-for-profit organizations, of which there are many, offering the entire range of social services, arts and heritage preservation, and promotion.

The area’s public and private school systems and technological school are preparing tomorrow’s workforce. The community college offers many programs tailored toward local employment needs, including industry specific degrees, customized training courses, and leadership and community development programs. Vineland Public Schools are implementing Small Learning Communities, a form of school structure used to subdivide large school populations into smaller, autonomous groups of students and teachers to create a more personalized learning environment to better meet the needs of students.

Business is booming and it is evident that Vineland has entered a new phase of growth. It is easy for an entrepreneur or a large corporation to make an educated decision to open their doors here because of the continued growth the area has encountered. Even with the tremendous business growth our region continues to experience, we have worked hard to preserve the balance between “major metro area suburb” and the “rural country” that is synonymous with Vineland’s character. As a result, we continue to enjoy a setting that is as much urban and progressive as it is rural and traditional.

However diverse our interests, we are united by a common desire to use our skills and talents to succeed in our business and professional lives and to encourage business growth and a sound economic future.

The heart of the business community for the area is the Greater Vineland Chamber of Commerce. There, members from every business sector conduct business that returns benefits and dividends to the local community. “Come Grow with Us!”
